Dear Parents/Guardians of Bus Students:
Since the beginning of the school year the bus drivers, bus company, parents/guardians and the SCSTC have reached out to administration multiple times with regards to the behaviour on the bus both to and from school. As per bus company protocol, yellow slips are issued for inappropriate bus behaviour (single or whole bus). This includes: eating on the bus, not remaining in a seat, inappropriate language, excessive noise, leaving garbage, throwing objects, hands on etc. These yellow slips are primarily dealt with at a school level, and can result in 2 warnings and then removal from the bus (length at the discretion of the administration).
Today, Ms. Thatcher and Ms. Brown held individual bus meetings and spoke directly to the students who ride the bus (-this is not the first time-) and made it clear that this behaviour will no longer be tolerated. At school, students are to wait in their designated bus lines and when the bus comes they are to board the bus in an orderly fashion, youngest to oldest. The younger students sit at the front of the bus and the older students sit at the back. While riding the bus there is no moving seats, no standing, only school appropriate conversation, and noise level is kept to a minimum. For safety reasons all sports equipment and toys must be secure in a bag while riding the bus.
Please discuss appropriate bus behaviour with your child/ren to ensure that the remainder of the year is a success. It is important that your child/ren understand that riding the bus is a privilege not a right.
Moving forward, if a yellow slip, email, or phone call is received by the office, those involved will be missing time off the bus as decided by the administration.
